How to Apply for Maid Insurance or Renew Maid Insurance in Singapore

You may have made up your mind to have a maid in your home in Singapore. If so, then you need to know how to apply or renew Maid insurance as it is mandatory here. The permit needs to be renewed every two years. You can contact a maid agency to apply or renew a permit or do it on your own.

Maid Permit Application Procedures

  • You need to fill up an online form & submit.
  • Pay the required fees.
  • Wait for the processing of the application. Online applications take about a week's time.
  • You can visit the official site to check the current status of the application. On approval, you will receive an In-Principal Approval Letter or Letter of Notification.
  • Your helper should be sent the letter to provide her with approval to enter Singapore.
  • Before your helper arrives, you need to undertake the following:

    • Purchase security bond.
    • Purchase personal accident & medical insurance for your maid like Income's domestic helper insurance.
    • For first time workers coming to Singapore, you need to register for Ministry of Manpower (MOM)'S Settling-In Program. Your maid needs to attend on her arrival within 3 days.

Maid Renewal Procedures

Permit for your maid needs to be renewed every 2 years and this is mandatory to hire maids legally in Singapore. Ministry of Manpower (MOM) will send a Renewal Letter for your maid 5 weeks before the expiry of the permit. You can renew it on your own or taking the help of an agency. Follow the below-given steps:

  • Fill up the online form completely & submit. Follow instructions provided on the Renewal Letter. Scan your helper's passport & upload the scanned copy with personal particulars page along with personal accident insurance, security bond. Also, provide medical insurance including details to deliver the secure card.
  • Pay the necessary amount.
  • On verification of submitted documents, you or your authorized recipient will receive SMS about card delivery within four working days. In case, there are 2 unsuccessful delivery attempts, then it is your responsibility to pick the card from the MOM Services Center. This should be done within 3 days of second attempted delivery.
  • Your helper's old passport should be posted & returned to the Work Pass Division of MOM.

It is your duty & responsibility to protect your maid by providing her with a proper & valid insurance policy. Choose insurance which covers surgical & hospital, personal accident & wage compensation.
